Worship: More than a Hallmark Card

Luke 6:27-38 | If we were to distill the Christian message into one word, some might suggest that word be “love.” Out of grace, God loves us, and now, we are called to embody that love. Often the catchphrase is “love God, love others,” right? But while that command may seem cut and dry, the more we experience life, the more we are likely to recognize that truly loving one another is quite difficult. So then what? Well, having just passed a holiday celebrating love, join us in worship as we experience God’s grace for us, and as we are challenged to take up a renewed call to embody God’s love in the world.

Worship: Blessed

Luke 6:17-26 | We often use the word “blessed” when talking about experiences in our lives. But what does that word mean? And how did Jesus use this word? Join us for worship as we hear God’s Word and experience Christ’s promises. Special thanks to Pastor Marvin Robeck and our lay leaders in Pastor Aleese’s absence.

Worship: Definition of Insanity Redefined

Luke 5:1-11|As the old adage goes, “the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” And yet, after a night of fishing and catching nothing, this is exactly what Jesus calls Simon and his comrades to do. Obeying Jesus’ command, they throw their nets in the water (yet again) and are surprised to pull in a catch of fish so large that it breaks their nets. So, today, might we be called to toss our nets into the water (yet again) even when it seems as though nothing is going to change? And, might there be an abundance that we miss out on if we don’t? Join us for worship as we hear Christ’s promise of abundance and fulfillment and as we are sent as Jesus’ disciples.

Worship: Confronted with an Unexpected Word

Jeremiah 1:4-10, Luke 4:21-30 | Ever receive something different than what you expected? It happens from time to time, especially when ordering online! But could it be that, sometimes, we also receive something different than we expect from God’s Word? God’s Word offers peace and comfort, but it also has the potential to lead us to confront preconceived notions about ourselves, our neighbors, and God. Join us for worship as we courageously listen to God’s Word for us today and as we are sent to take that Word with us in our daily living.

Worship: The Power of God’s Word

Nehemiah 8:1-3, 5-6, 8-10, Luke 4:14-21 | Each week, we hear Scripture read from the Bible.  But what do these old stories have to tell us about our lives and our world today?  Join us as we explore the power of God’s Word and dare to believe that God’s promises have been fulfilled in us, sending us forth to bear God’s Good News to the world.

Worship: This Party Ain’t Over Yet

John 2:1-11 | Sometimes, as we look at our lives, our world, and the church, it might seem as though we’re running on fumes leading, us to exhaustion. But as Jesus points to as he turns water into wine, we are promised that even when the party seems like it’s almost over, God pours out his love upon us, reigniting us in joy. Join us for worship as we receive God’s cup of salvation and as we are sent forth to live as people filled with God’s abundance.

Worship: Blue Pill or Red Pill?

Luke 3:15-17, 21-22; Isaiah 43:1-7 | Day after day after day, we all have various roles and responsibilities that we fulfill. But in the midst of the daily grind, what’s the point of it all? And, what really connects us to ourselves, to others, and to our purpose? As we take a look at the baptism of Jesus this Sunday, join us for worship as we are reminded of the reality that God ushers us into in our baptism and receive an invitation to live into what the Spirit is already doing within us.

Worship: Home By Another Way

Matthew 2: 1-12 | After Jesus was born, the wisemen from the east observed a star rising in the sky. Upon seeing it, the wisemen set out on a very specific journey to discover the origin of this star. In time, they arrived at their destination. But after seeing them entering the house with Jesus and his parents, they knew that their journey forth from that place would be different. Though they’d set out on one journey, they went home by another. Join us for worship as we consider our own journeys and the pivots that occur, as we are called to follow where our star, Jesus Christ, leads us.

Worship: An Invitation has Arrived…for You

Luke 2:1-20 | Throughout the season of Advent, we were invited to come home, coming home to each other, and coming home to Christ. Hearing the Christmas story yet again this year, it’s clear that each character also received an invitation to be a part of God’s purposes in the world. That is, except one person: Jesus, the Son of God. God never received an invitation to come to us, and yet, out of love, God didn’t wait. God came to us because he knew we needed his presence, his mercy, his love, and his forgiveness. So now that Christ has come, now we are given an invitation to come home to our Lord. Join us for worship as the characters of our live nativity lead us through various invitations given long ago—and still given today—as we ponder our invitation to be a part of God’s purposes in the world.

Worship: Seeking Sanctuary

Luke 1: 39-56 | When you have important news to share, who do you go and tell? Many of us have people we trust, but with some news, it may be difficult to know exactly how another person will respond. In our last Gospel of this Advent season, we hear the story of Mary going to share the news of her pregnancy with her relative, Elizabeth. Together, with one another, Mary and Elizabeth found the space of sanctuary that they were seeking. Still today, God gifts us with people, and places, of sanctuary where we are welcomed, loved, and accepted without judgment. But in love, God has also created a sanctuary within us. As we conclude our Advent journey, join us as we seek the sanctuary within ourselves where Christ is already dwelling and growing.
