Exodus 20:1-17, John 2:13-22 | We all seek direction in our lives – whether facing big decisions, or simply living from day-to-day. The Bible gives us examples of cut and dry “rules” given to God’s people throughout the ages. But do these “rules” really show us the way? Or, is there still another way being shown to us this Lenten season? Join us as we hear God’s Word, seeking God’s way to be shown to us, and as we partake in our Lord’s supper, following after Jesus as our Way. Worship: Listen to Him
Mark 8:31-9:8 | Like the disciples, we often hear what we want to hear. When Jesus told Peter about his coming suffering and death, Peter was in disbelief, leading him to rebuke Jesus. Yet, Jesus encouraged Peter to lay aside what he wanted to hear, and instead pick up the truth of his cross. As followers of Jesus today, we too are called to listen to the truths that the Spirit speaks: whether those truths come from those around us or from within ourselves. In heeding those truths, like Peter, we are called to deny those things we cling so tightly to, so that we might pick up Christ’s cross: the only thing that promises true and abundant life. Join us for worship as we practice listening to Jesus and are sent forth to listen to the Spirit at work around us and in us. Worship: Into the Wilderness
Mark 1: 9-15 | This past Sunday, we remembered the promise that God comes to meet us, again and again, in love. Possessed by the Holy Spirit, we are sent forth in confidence to continue the journey before us. For Jesus, that journey sent him into the wilderness. We, too, might find ourselves in wilderness places, or, may find ourselves there this Lenten season. As you continue your Lenten walk, journey with us as we reflect on the nature of temptation, wilderness, and our faith journeys. Lent 1 Midweek Worship Bulletin
Worship: Down on our Level
Mark 1: 9-15 | In the words of Officer Jones, “…sometimes all we want is one person to stop, get on our level, and maybe wipe our tears.” Sometimes, more than anything we desire the assurance that someone not only sees us, but is willing to come and meet with us. Time and time again, this is what our God does…taking drastic measures to destroy barriers that keep us from God’s love. Join us for worship as we remember this promise and live into the truth that we have been possessed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Worship: Scattered
Psalm 51; Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18| In the past year, we’ve felt the effect of being physically scattered from one another. But this sense of being “scattered” goes deeper than the pandemic. For like the dust of the earth, we are a scattered people. Period. Over and over, we turn from God’s breath of life, and we find ourselves amidst brokenness. But again and again, God invites us back in…to experience his grace, his love, and forgiveness once again. By the cross of Jesus, we are seen as more than dust. Instead, we are seen as worthy; we are seen in love.
If you missed marking the beginning of the Lenten season, be sure to join us as, together, we admit our sin and brokenness, and look to the only one who is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Worship: Changed for Good
Mark 9:2-9| Throughout our lives, there are experiences that change us, shifting how we think about ourselves and the world around us. In the same way, our experiences of the glory of God – revealed to us – also have the potential to transform our lives, shaping our journey ahead. But do we allow that Spirit to mold us into something new, perhaps sending us on a different trajectory? Join us for worship as we consider our walks of faith and prepare ourselves to walk into the season of Lent. Worship: Strength in Weariness
Isaiah 40: 21-31, Mark 1: 29-39|“How are you?” is often a question that pops up early in casual conversation. But the real answer? Sometimes, it’s not so easy to capture really how we’re doing. It’s one thing to talk about events of a day. But it’s another thing completely to answer from the depth of our being – sometimes leading to the truth that we are weary. We’re worn out. We’re tired. It’s common within our culture to push that feeling down, and to “keep on keepin’ on.” But how are we to live as followers of Jesus as we encounter weariness and exhaustion? Join us for worship as we hear God’s word of promise given to the Israelite people, and given through Jesus to Simon’s mother-in-law, raising her to new life. Mark 1: 21-28|What do you have to do with us, Jesus? It’s a daring question. Even asking it implies that Jesus does have something to do with us, with our lives, and with our world. But what is it? Join us for worship as we are reminded of Christ’s authority and power over all things, and are invited to open ourselves to the liberating power of the Holy Spirit. Worship: What Time Is It?
Mark 1: 14-20|Timing makes a difference. It determines what we do, and when we do it. The same was true for Jesus as he began his ministry, proclaiming the good news of God’s kingdom. The clock had shifted, which demanded an immediate response from his soon-to-be disciples. So what’s happening, now? Considering all the changes and unknowns of 2020, it is clear we are not in the same spot we were a year ago. But even now, God’s kingdom has come among us, demanding a response in what we do and when we do it. Join us for worship as we consider Christ’s call to us – individually and collectively. Worship: Come and See
John 1: 43-51|“Come and see! Come and look!” typically indicates something pretty amazing. When we invite others to see something, we’re either A) proud of something we’ve done or B) have something so incredible to share that we just can’t hold it in any longer. It is with that same urgency that Jesus disciples, and we ourselves, are invited to “come and see” on our walk of faith. But having “come and seen” the birth of Christ at Christmas, and his baptism last week, now what? Join us in worship as we consider how we are to respond to that which we have “come and seen” as people of faith. Music and liturgy used within worship covered under CCLI License #1141706.
