Worship: An Honest Start

Isaiah 58:1-12, Psalm 5:1-17 | Before going on a journey, it behooves us to be honest. Just as silly as it would be to set out on a journey of hundreds of miles with no gas and no gas station in sight, it also is deceptive for us to begin our journey of seeking without taking a moment to be honest with ourselves and honest with God. So as you begin your Lenten journey, join us as we offer ourselves honestly to God, as we confess our sin, as we turn in repentance, and as we receive the promise that even as scattered, broken, people we are forgiven by our God who is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Worship: Living in the Mystery

Matthew 17:1-9 | The old children’s Sunday School song – Love in a Box – suggests that God’s love, and God’s glory, can’t be contained. Yet, when Peter witnesses the glory of Jesus’ transfiguration, his first impulse is to encapsulate the moment by building three tents. Though Peter’s response may appear illogical, sometimes we also attempt to capture God’s glory in an attempt to “understand God” rather than living into the mystery – and perhaps even the questions – of our faith. As we look to the coming season of Lent, join us for worship as we are summoned to embrace the mystery of God and as we move forward – seeking Christ – on our journeys of faith.

Worship: Jesus and Traffic Lights

Matthew 5:21-37 | For many of us, we hop in a car on a daily basis, traveling from point A to point B. While driving, we may be in our own little world: listening to music, thinking about where we’re going, or planning out our day.  But all the while on the road, we also have a responsibility to other drivers. Much in the same way, Jesus teaches his disciples and the crowds in his Sermon on the Mount about the importance – and implications – of living with one another in God’s Kingdom. Join us this weekend for worship as we become aware of how we have – and haven’t – paid attention to those around us, and as we hop behind the wheel – taking the risk to live together in God’s kingdom come near.

Worship: You are Salt

Matthew 5:13-20 | Salt is likely the most common, most used, and oldest method of seasoning a dish while cooking. Though in America we are often cautioned to watch our salt intake, and not add too much salt to our food, salt has numerous benefits – especially as a natural preserver and flavor enhancer. So then what does it mean for Jesus to declare that we are the salt of the earth? Join us for worship as we receive our commissioning from Jesus to join in his mission, enhancing God’s Kingdom on earth.

Worship: What does the Lord require of you?

Micah 6:1-8 | What does the Lord require of you? Some might make a list of the things we’re “supposed” to do as followers of Jesus. But as we hear from the prophet Micah this morning, it’s actually quite simple: to remember what God has done and to remember our call to walk, and live, as God’s people. Join us for worship as we hear God’s call and as we are made new by the ever-faithful promises of our Lord.

Worship: Follow

Matthew 4:12-23 | We follow the car in front of us. We follow a trend. We follow an inspiring person. We follow our parents. We follow Facebook pages, Instagram profiles, and TikTok reels. We follow so many things, ideas, and peoples. So then why do we follow Jesus? And why did Jesus’ first disciples decide to follow him? Join us for worship as we gather around the baptismal font, where our journey of discipleship begins, and as we are sent forth to claim Christ’s promises for ourselves.

Worship: Come and See

John 1:29-42 | Ever had the experience of a young child beckoning you to come and see something? Often, we might not know what we might be going to look at, nor do we always know what we’re getting ourselves into! And yet, by accepting the invitation of that child, we’re often drawn into a moment that has the potential to expand our relationship with that child. This week, as we continue in the season of Epiphany, we hear Jesus offer to his first two disciples the invitation to “come and see.” Still today, that invitation to “come and see” is extended to us, summoning us to not only look AT Jesus, but to experience Christ for ourselves. Join us for worship as Jesus eagerly and lovingly invites us to come to him, dwelling with him, through Word and Sacrament.

Worship: What’s in a Name?

Matthew 3:13-17 | Each of us were given a name at our birth. For some, that name holds meaning, and for all, that name points to our unique identity. In addition to that name, through Christ’s birth, baptism, death and resurrection, we also have been given a name by God – beloved. Join us for worship as we remember Christ’s baptism, and as we remember our own baptism, calling us to intentionally pick up and live into our name.

Worship: Seeking Christ

Matthew 2:1-12 | Long ago, the wise men followed a star, leading them to Jesus. Today, we may not follow a literal star as we seek God, but we too are given signs and practices that direct us in faith and life. As we begin a new year, join us for worship as we seek after Christ, and as we open ourselves to God’s guiding word upon our lives.

Note: If you are joining us via our livestream, or our recorded worship, be sure to check out this list of star words. These star words are utilized during the message, encouraging worshippers to consider God’s invitation to them in the coming year. Words were distributed to those in-person randomly; choose a word as randomly as possible from the list.

Worship: All is Definitely Not Calm…But All is So Much Brighter

Luke 2:1-20 | On this night, we watch in wonder as the Christ child in born among us. In the words of the beloved carol, “Silent Night,” “all is calm” and “all is bright.” And yet, when we hear the story of Christ’s birth, the reality is that all was not calm on the night that Jesus was born. Cows were mooing, Mary was forced to give birth in a cattle stall, and shepherds were jolted out of their skin as angels greeted them. Even still, through the incarnation of God’s Son, the world was filled with the brightness of Christ’s light. Join us for worship as we adore Christ on bended knee, and as we are invited to join in the brightness of Christ’s light…even when all is definitely not calm.
